You’ve probably seen the email by now from the Marketing and Fundraising Committees about our brand-new CWS Coffee Tuk-Tuk.
This little espresso-powered dream has been percolating for three years, and at first, we had a bold vision (think triple shot, extra foam), but no clue how to actually bring it into reality.
What we did know was that our fundraising needed a sustainable ‘drip’, not just a one-time pour effort every now and then. So, we started saving over the years to eventually create something that would keep fundraising flowing smoother than a freshly pulled flat white.
The Tuk-Tuk has been brewed with three key ingredients in mind:
1. To serve up amazing coffee to the CWS community, day in and day out (and at every event), at a brilliant price.
2. To pour every cent of the proceeds back into our school… because that’s what fundraising should taste like.
3. To create a cozy little nook for connection, a place for our community to meet, mingle, just ‘land’ and connect after school drop-offs or pick-ups.
We ground through a lot of research and chatted with coffee connoisseurs, salespeople, and café sages – but things only really began to heat up when we connected with one of our very own coffee wizards, Carl Wessels. Then, with a double shot of energy from another parent, Florian Lorenzen, our little ‘magic-bean kiosk’ started to take form.
Of course, no good coffee venture is complete without the real MVPs: the baristas. And just like a top-tier ‘Cup of Joe’, they are the alchemy in the mug. Enter Asanda Asa and Maria Micha – our resident morning magicians. They are hard at work getting to know our community, learning your names, and just what your coffee personalities are (yes, we see you, almond milk double expresso half-sweet with raw honey).
And because no coffee moment is truly complete without a little something sweet, we are thrilled to have Tessa on board, another one of our own kitchen goddesses armed with her freshly home-baked, delicious cinnamon sticks. Resistance is futile.
Oh, and one more thing… While we do have biodegradable takeaway cups and lids on hand, we strongly encourage everyone to BRING YOUR OWN CUP! Not only does your favorite mug make your coffee taste 37% better (scientifically unproven, but spiritually accurate), it also helps us stay true to our Waldorf striving and commitment to sustainability.
With that said, and as a friendly little nudge toward reducing waste and keeping Mother Earth happy too, there’ll be a R5 additional charge for disposable cups.
So… come, grab a cup, say hi, and take a moment to sip and stir up some conversation. Our Tuk-Tuk is serving more than just coffee.
